Welcome to Struthers Turning Studio
Leslie Struthers is a native of Michigan, currently living and working in Western Pennsylvania with her partner of 26 years. She has been turning for 7 years, studying for the first year with master turner Edric Florence.

Struthers prefers turning bowls, both as sculpture and for daily use. She works with mostly local woods, and does not fell trees simply for turning purposes. The bowls she makes are either sculptural or utilitarian, but both styles use the wood to full advantage, showing off the grain and natural colours. Struthers will embellish a bowl if she feels it will add to the beauty and interest of the final piece, but often relies on the wood itself to enhance the beauty of the shape she creates.

Often influenced by the traditionally female arts, such as embroidery and other needlework, Struthers has included cut work embroidery patterns in her work, showcased in a past series of bowls. She is currently working through The 50 Bowl Project, a self teaching course she created to enhance her turning skills.
